The most flexible of our MIS programs, the Master of Interdisciplinary Studies with a General Studies Learning Block online program from Southern Utah University enables you to combine various fields of focus into an individualized master’s degree. For students who have earned credit elsewhere, this is also an efficient pathway to complete your master’s degree as entering students may transfer up to 9 previous graduate credit hours into the program.
In this 100 percent online program, you will select three areas of study tailored to your personal interests and professional goals. With four learning blocks to choose from—Business Administration, Leadership, Professional Communication, and Nonprofit Management—and a variety of course choices within each, the MIS is ideal if you want a degree that integrates knowledge from a wide range of disciplines, combining breadth with depth.
You will benefit from personalized, one-on-one support from the same highly qualified faculty who teach on campus. Our faculty work closely with all MIS students to explore career options as well as develop and progress through a degree plan, ensuring you graduate with marketable skills that support your next professional steps.

Admissions
At SUU, we’ve streamlined the admission process to help you get started quickly and easily. Please read the requirements for entering the MIS online program; this section also covers required documents and where you should send them.
You must meet the following requirements for admission to the MIS online program.
- Submit graduate application and $60 non-refundable application fee
- Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited university
- Minimum 3.0 overall undergraduate GPA
- *If your GPA is lower than 3.0, please still apply as you could be admitted on a provisional basis. Please contact an Enrollment Services representative at 833-994-0043 for more information.
- Official transcripts from all colleges/universities attended
- Statement of Intent (will be submitted directly on the application form)
- Submit a professional resume that includes employment history, academic accomplishments, and highlights professional experience
- You must enter the contact information for three references on your application form. Please select people who can provide details about your academic and/or professional work, and ability to be successful in the MIS program

Courses
The MIS – General Studies Learning Block online curriculum is comprised of 10 courses (30 credit hours), including 3 credit hours of introductory coursework, 24 credit hours of coursework selected from three learning block subject areas and a 3-credit-hour capstone course. Students transferring credit hours should note the following:
- Students may transfer up to 9 graduate credit hours (three courses) from another institution
- Transfer credits may be across multiple subject areas as long as the student remains within the guidelines regarding completion of three learning blocks
- Students with only 3 or 6 transfer credits may choose the remaining required credit hours in any online learning block offered by SUU as long as the student remains within the guidelines given above regarding completion of three learning blocks
Students who do not hold a business undergraduate degree from an AACSB-accredited institution may be required to take BA 6000 prior to taking other courses from the Business Administration learning block.
