Program Overview
Take your passion for sound to the next level with the Master of Music with an emphasis in Music Technology – Studio and Game Audio Technology Track. This 100 percent online program is designed to teach you to use technology platforms in video, gaming and live event sound production. This degree is beneficial to anyone wanting to take advantage of the tremendous growth in this industry.
In this program, you will study scoring the dramatic arc of a scene, creating professional Musical Instrumental Digital Interface (MIDI) orchestrations, audio mixing of a final product for delivery, effective interaction with non-musicians, the use of software sound editing platforms, and more. You will have the opportunity to choose between additional courses related to studio technology or interactive entertainment technology used for gaming.
Learn alongside creative peers and experienced faculty committed to high-level learning and collaboration and graduate with a solid portfolio to help you stand out in the crowd. You’ll also complete a capstone project demonstrating mastery and synthesis of skills gained in the program.

In this program, you will:
- Study the creation of realistic, electronically produced mockups of orchestral compositions and make an in-depth study of sample-based virtual instruments and their manipulation through MIDI
- Explore the history and development of electronic music, synthesis, sampling and MIDI
- Study theory analysis of electronic, popular, commercial and film music from the development of electronic music to the present
- Study the creation of realistic, electronically produced mockups of orchestral compositions and make an in-depth study of sample-based virtual instruments and their manipulation through MIDI

In addition to the tuition and fees, students will need to purchase a small number of textbooks, music software and hardware, and (as needed) computer hardware.
PRIOR TO STARTING ANY TRACK IN THE PROGRAM, all students are required to have access to:
- Broadband Internet service
- A computer running Windows 7 or above (PC) or OS 10.9 or above (Mac)
- AVID Pro Tools Digital Audio Workstation software (version 10 or above) (Academic pricing is available from AVID.)
- A USB MIDI controller keyboard
- An audio interface (USB, Firewire or Thunderbolt)
- One large-diaphragm condenser mic
- A matched stereo pair of microphones (dynamic or condenser)
- Reasonably high-quality monitor speakers or monitoring headphones
- Google Drive either through their SUU email address or their personal Gmail address
IN ADDITION TO THE LIST ABOVE, while completing the Studio Technology and Game Audio Track, students will have courses that require access to the following materials:
- Native Instruments Komplete (including Kontakt 6)
- An additional Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) from the list below:
- Logic
- Digital Performer
- Cubase
- Ableton Live
Students that wish to complete the Game Audio courses will also need access to Wwise audio implementation software, which is free to students.

- Submit online graduate application and $60 non-refundable application fee
- Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited university
- Minimum 3.0 overall undergraduate GPA
- Below a 3.0 will be considered based on holistic review of application including recording submissions and resume or LinkedIn profile.
- Official transcripts from all colleges/universities attended
- Audio or video recording samples showing current skill level as a performer, composer and/or technologist as links to SoundCloud, YouTube or other acceptable media pages (submitted through online application)

The M.M. Music Technology – Studio & Game Audio Technology Track online curriculum is comprised of 10 courses (30 credit hours), including 18 credit hours of core courses and 12 credit hours in your chosen track.
