Admission Requirements

  • BSN from a regionally accredited institution
  • Active and unrestricted RN license
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA

You must meet the following requirements for admission to the MSN – FNP online program:

  • Submit graduate application
  • Bachelor's degree in nursing from a nationally accredited institution (e.g., ACEN, CCNE or CNEA)
  • Minimum 3.0 overall undergraduate GPA
  • Official transcripts from the accredited college/university that granted the nursing degree
  • One year work experience as an RN
  • Prior undergraduate statistics course with a minimum grade of "C"
    • If you do not have a prior statistics course with a "C" or better grade, you can be provisionally admitted and you will be alerted in your Admissions letter of an option to complete a non-credit statistics course during your first course/session at SUU via MyEducator, an online platform designed to provide the foundational knowledge required in order to be successful in the program. You will not be able to proceed further into the program without meeting this requirement.

This course will prepare students to incorporate individual characteristics, population factors, and social determinants of health (SDOH) into health promotion activities to improve individual and population health outcomes, reduce health disparities, and improve health equity. This course incorporates the American College of Lifestyle Medicine Lifestyle Medicine 101 curriculum along with population focused health promotion and disease prevention programs from state, federal, and non-profit organizations. The campus clinical intensive is a one-week live interaction at the SUU campus. It allows the nurse practitioner students to exercise their skills through interactive activities that are not available through online course work. Students will engage in clinical course related activities such as physical assessment practice with standardized patients, case presentations and communication, simulation cases and procedures, wound management and primary care office procedures. The on campus intensive also provides an opportunity for students to connect to the MSN faculty and other health profession programs at SUU.
