What you need for admission to the online MBA – Arts Administration Emphasis

Our streamlined admission process enables you to start quickly and easily. Please read the requirements for the MBA online, including what additional materials you need and where you should send them. Requirements include:

Admission Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
  • 2.5 GPA
  • No GMAT required

Foundation course

Students may be required to take a 3 credit hour Foundations course based on a holistic review of the application and supporting documents with special consideration of undergraduate major, GPA and relevant work experience. Students will be notified of their course sequence at the time of admission.

Transcripts

Please submit official transcripts from the college/university in which a bachelor's, master's or doctoral degree from an accredited institution was obtained.
  • Applicants who have graduated from SUU do not need to submit a transcript
  • International transcripts must include a transcript evaluation from a third-party service such as SpanTran or WES showing that the degree is equivalent to a U.S. bachelor's degree

For the MBA – Arts Administration Emphasis online program, you must complete 24 credit hours of core courses, including a capstone strategy course, and 9 credit hours of emphasis courses. Students may be required to take a 3 credit hour business foundations course based on a holistic review of the application and supporting documents with special consideration of undergraduate major, GPA and relevant work experience. Students will be notified of their course sequence at the time of admission.

This accelerated and condensed course covers the essential concepts of Business Statistics, Microsoft Excel, Financial and Managerial Accounting and Corporate Finance that are necessary for success in subsequent graduate level business administration courses.

This course examines the principles of organizational behavior involved in managing people and organizations in a business environment. Topics include leadership, motivation, effective teams, conflict and negotiations, power and influence, organizational culture, and change management. This course focuses on the practical application of these principles in a meaningful and ethical manner. **FIXED FIRST COURSE for all MBA STUDENTS unless you are required to take BA 6000. If BA 6000 is required, you will receive a course sequence from your academic advisor. This fixed-first does not apply to students in the MSN, MSN/MBA dual degree program, or the MS in Cybersecurity with Information Assurance - Management program.**

Students will learn the basic principles of arts administration (including general arts management, organizational leadership, financial management, marketing, development, and strategic planning) and apply those theories into practice through the creation of an imaginary project arts organization. This course will also give students an overview of the importance of arts advocacy, and the role students will play as future creators of cultural policy.

Students will develop an understanding of arts advocacy and cultural policy at multiple levels, developing strategies to engage with civic, business, state, and federal agencies on behalf of the arts. Students will become empowered advocates for the arts through readings, case studies, discussions, professional practice, and critical analysis of both national and international cultural policy.

Students will become familiar with the process of grant research, writing, and compliance. Students will have the opportunity to apply theory into practice as they identify real-world organizations in need of funding, locate potential funding sources (including government, corporate, and foundation grants), write grant proposals, and submit those proposals to the funding organization.

This course provides an in-depth study of the role of a Board of Directors and the planning process as it effects the operation of arts and cultural organizations. Specific topics covered include board and staff interaction, board duties and responsibilities, fundraising, governance models, strategic planning, parliamentary procedures for meetings, committee structures, and developing by-laws and policies.
