GMAT or Waiver

A well-qualified MBA candidate will possess:

  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution
    • Undergraduate GPA of 3.00 or higher (cumulative or in the last 60 credits of undergraduate study) and official GMAT/GRE test score
      • GMAT Waiver: GMAT will be waived with a 3.3 undergraduate GPA (cumulative of last 60 credits) OR three or more years of significant management or professional experience (as verified by a resume) OR terminal degree. Please see below for additional essay option.
    • Applicants with a GPA lower than 3.00 must submit a GMAT/GRE score and will be considered for admission if they are able to fulfill the index score of (GPA x 200) + GMAT >=1,150
    • Applicants with a GPA lower than 3.00 must submit a GMAT/GRE score and may be considered for admission if they are able to fulfill the index score of (GPA x 200) + GMAT >=1,050
  • Official GMAT or GRE test scores or proof to receive the GMAT waiver above
    • Applicants who do not meet the above waiver requirements may either submit an official GMAT or GRE score, OR submit a 500-word essay explaining to the admissions committee why they should be admitted into the program without taking the exam. This essay will be submitted directly on the application form. The admissions committee will take into account the complete application and will make the final decision if a GMAT/GRE waiver will be granted.
  • Statement of Intent. In 500 words or less, describe your goals and expectations in pursuing an MBA degree from Southern Utah University and why you would be a valuable addition to the program. This statement will be submitted directly on the application form.
  • Resume. Submit a professional resume that includes employment history, academic accomplishments, and highlights managerial and leadership experience.
  • References. You must enter the contact information for three references on your application form. Please select people who can provide details about your academic and/or professional work and ability to be successful in an MBA program.
  • Application Fee. A $60 non-refundable application fee must be paid by credit card with the submission of your online application.

During the application process, be prepared to submit official transcripts from each college or university attended. Applicants who have graduated from SUU do not need to submit a transcript.

Courses

For the MBA – General Emphasis online, you must complete 24 credit hours of core courses, including a capstone strategy course, and 9 credit hours of electives. Students may be required to take a 3 credit hour business foundations course based on a holistic review of the application and supporting documents with special consideration of undergraduate major, GPA and relevant work experience. Students will be notified of their course sequence at the time of admission.

If you are required to take this course, it must be taken first and cannot be taken at the same time as another course.

This accelerated and condensed course covers the essential concepts of Business Statistics, Microsoft Excel, Financial and Managerial Accounting and Corporate Finance that are necessary for success in subsequent graduate level business administration courses. Course objectives: • Calculate and analyze business statistics in a variety of scenarios. • Utilize excel functions to organize, analyze and visualize data using a company model. • Demonstrate decision making processes by calculating financial metrics and utilizing managerial accounting methods. • Build connections with fellow students trough discussion boards.

This course examines the principles of organizational behavior involved in managing people and organizations in a business environment. Topics include leadership, motivation, effective teams, conflict and negotiations, power and influence, organizational culture, and change management. This course focuses on the practical application of these principles in a meaningful and ethical manner. **FIXED FIRST COURSE for all MBA STUDENTS unless you are required to take BA 6000. If BA 6000 is required, you will receive a course sequence from your academic advisor. This fixed-first does not apply to students in the MSN/MBA dual degree program or the MS in Cybersecurity with Information Assurance - Management program.**

To enhance their knowledge of business law, students will study negotiable instruments, bank/customer relations, secured transactions, debtor/creditor relations, bankruptcy, agency law, real property, insurance, wills, trusts, estates, accountants’ legal liability, and legal and political philosophy.

This seminar is designed to help students develop the strength of their own characters by receiving ethics education in moral sensitivity, judgment, and motivation. Ethics philosophies, professional codes of conduct, and strategies for ensuring ethical behavior in the workplace are discussed using case studies of ethics scandals and moral exemplars. The course fee of $22.00 is used to support the computer labs and mediated classrooms in the Business Building.

This course provides students with an understanding of the financial tools used in creating, running, and valuing entrepreneurial enterprises. It includes an overview of the entrepreneurial process, including different organizational structures, financing sources, and the value of intellectual property protections. The course also covers the valuation techniques commonly used by professional investors, and examines how investors, particularly private equity sources, select projects for investment. Students will learn to use common financial ratios and cash flow projections to analyze the liquidity and profitability of the firm. This course introduces students to the real estate industry with a focus on the financing and valuation of real estate assets. The class applies time value of money concepts to evaluate the attractiveness of different loans alternatives, including the impact of loan points, early repayment, and adjustable payments. It also covers important aspects of real estate contracts and the secondary mortgage market. A major portion of the course focuses on valuation techniques that are commonly used in the real estate appraisal process, including common lease terms and their impact on the value of projects. This course provides excellent preparation for students interested in undertaking the professional licensing process.

For each major asset class, we learn common valuation approaches, as well as the theories used to estimate appropriate discount rates.
